Family board games for your summer break

School’s out for summer!

Summer is ideal for spending quality time together as a family. Parents take a break from work to spend more time with their children.  But how do mobile phones change the game?

For one thing, parents may still feel “tied” to the office via email and video calls. Teens might be checking social media or creating TikTok videos.

What was supposed to be a moment for the family to bond and reconnect may be completely lost.  Parents may tell themselves: “Maybe during next year's vacation, we will spend more time with the children.” Why not start now?

Family games are excellent ways to pass the time, keep the brain active and strengthen the family's social-emotional bonds.  They help children and teens of all ages learn, and problem solve and encourage siblings to play together.  They also help children learn about winning and losing and can be an excellent opportunity for parents to learn about their children's social and personal life.  Family games are not always peaceful because someone always may skipped, or another person might bend the rules, but the memory that remains is the fun the family had playing together.

Below is a list of fun family games to start with this summer.  Did you know that the creator of the famous board game “The World of Catan” was inspired by a board game he played at age 11?  Who knows, the next renowned entrepreneur might be your child!

Five home game ideas:

1.      The Farming Game

2.      The World of Catan

3.      Gobblet

4.      Skippity

5.      Spot It!

Why not pick a fun gift as a prize and challenge your family to a board game!
